As geopolitical tension continues across the Middle East involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, concern has been rising over global fuel logistics and refined energy supply. For Bangladesh, where diesel remains essential for transport, agriculture, power support, and industry, any disruption in supply creates immediate public concern.

In that context, Chattogram Port has delivered a reassuring update. On Monday, March 9, a large tanker carrying around 27,000 metric tons of diesel from Singapore anchored within the port area, offering a timely boost to the country’s fuel position.

First tanker reaches port

According to Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and port-related sources, the vessel named MV Gi Yu Chi arrived on Monday afternoon. Its arrival comes at a sensitive moment, when the international energy market is under pressure from security concerns, shipping risk, and price volatility linked to regional conflict.

Officials and market observers see the arrival of this cargo as an important signal that Bangladesh’s supply chain remains active and that domestic diesel distribution can stay stable if unloading proceeds on time.

Second vessel expected the same night

Port and fuel transport sources also indicated that another major tanker was expected to arrive the same night. The vessel MV Lian Huan Hu, carrying roughly 30,000 metric tons of refined diesel from Singapore, was expected to reach the outer anchorage near the Kutubdia Channel at around 11 PM.

If both vessels are handled without delay, Bangladesh will receive nearly 57,000 metric tons of diesel in a single day, a substantial volume at a time when global uncertainty is pushing many countries to monitor energy reserves more closely.

Energy security gets a confidence boost

Relevant officials believe this dual arrival will strengthen confidence in the country’s short-term fuel security. Diesel plays a central role in inland transportation, freight movement, machinery operation, and parts of agricultural productivity. Because of that, uninterrupted supply is directly tied to economic stability.

Authorities have said that all essential preparations for unloading have already been completed, allowing cargo operations to begin quickly once the required port procedures are finished.

The significance of these arrivals extends beyond shipping activity. In times of international instability, fuel cargo movements become a strategic economic story. Smooth discharge, storage, and inland distribution can help reduce panic, prevent speculative pressure in the market, and support business continuity across multiple sectors.

For Bangladesh, the arrival of these tankers is more than routine port news. It is a reminder that maritime logistics, energy planning, and supply-chain readiness remain deeply connected to national resilience.

এমন পরিস্থিতিতে চট্টগ্রাম বন্দর থেকে এসেছে স্বস্তির খবর। সোমবার, ৯ মার্চ, সিঙ্গাপুর থেকে প্রায় ২৭ হাজার মেট্রিক টন ডিজেল নিয়ে একটি বড় তেলবাহী জাহাজ বন্দরের জলসীমায় নোঙর করেছে, যা দেশের জ্বালানি সরবরাহ পরিস্থিতিকে ইতিবাচকভাবে শক্তিশালী করবে বলে মনে করা হচ্ছে।

প্রথম জাহাজ বন্দরে পৌঁছায়

বাংলাদেশ পেট্রোলিয়াম কর্পোরেশন এবং বন্দর সংশ্লিষ্ট সূত্র জানিয়েছে, এমভি জি ইউ ছি নামের জাহাজটি সোমবার বিকেলে বন্দরে পৌঁছায়। বিশ্ব বাজারে যখন যুদ্ধঝুঁকি, রুট অনিশ্চয়তা এবং মূল্য ওঠানামা নিয়ে চাপ বাড়ছে, তখন এই চালানের আগমনকে অত্যন্ত তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ হিসেবে দেখা হচ্ছে।

সংশ্লিষ্টদের মতে, সময়মতো খালাস কার্যক্রম শুরু হলে অভ্যন্তরীণ বাজারে ডিজেল সরবরাহ স্বাভাবিক রাখা সহজ হবে এবং তা পরিবহন ও শিল্প খাতে স্বস্তি দেবে।

একই রাতে আরও একটি জাহাজ

বন্দর ও জ্বালানি পরিবহন সূত্র আরও জানিয়েছে, একই রাতে আরেকটি বড় ট্যাংকার চট্টগ্রাম বন্দরের বহির্নোঙরে পৌঁছানোর কথা রয়েছে। এমভি লিয়ান হুয়ান হু নামের জাহাজটি সিঙ্গাপুর থেকে প্রায় ৩০ হাজার মেট্রিক টন পরিশোধিত ডিজেল নিয়ে আসছে এবং রাত প্রায় ১১টার দিকে কুতুবদিয়া চ্যানেলের বহির্নোঙরে নোঙর করবে বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে।

দুটি জাহাজ মিলিয়ে একদিনেই প্রায় ৫৭ হাজার মেট্রিক টন ডিজেল দেশে পৌঁছানো বর্তমান আন্তর্জাতিক পরিস্থিতিতে একটি বড় ইতিবাচক বার্তা হিসেবে দেখা হচ্ছে।

জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তায় বাড়তি আস্থা

সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তারা মনে করছেন, এই আমদানি দেশের স্বল্পমেয়াদি জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তায় বাড়তি আস্থা তৈরি করবে। ডিজেল বাংলাদেশের সড়ক পরিবহন, পণ্য চলাচল, কৃষিযন্ত্র, এবং বহু শিল্পকারখানার কার্যক্রমে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখে। ফলে সরবরাহে স্থিতিশীলতা অর্থনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ডের ধারাবাহিকতার সঙ্গে সরাসরি সম্পর্কিত।

বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়েছে, জাহাজ থেকে দ্রুত তেল খালাস শুরুর জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় সব প্রস্তুতি সম্পন্ন করা হয়েছে। আনুষ্ঠানিক প্রক্রিয়া শেষ হলেই খালাস কার্যক্রম শুরু করা সম্ভব হবে।
