EU Commitments
EU Commitments
How JAR GROUP aligns with key European Union expectations on data protection, environment, labour rights, safety, ethics and transparent business practices across shipping, logistics, marine, trade and e-commerce.
1. Purpose of This Page
Many of JAR GROUP’s partners, principals, ship-owners, logistics networks and customers are based in or connected with the European Union. This page explains how we align our internal policies with EU expectations in areas such as data protection, environmental responsibility, labour and human rights, and anti-corruption, even though we are headquartered in Bangladesh.
2. Data Protection & GDPR-Aligned Practices
JAR GROUP is committed to protecting personal information of crew, customers, vendors and visitors. While GDPR is an EU regulation, we follow its key principles in our operations:
- Lawful purpose: We collect and process data only for defined business reasons (shipping, crew manning, trade, customer service).
- Data minimisation: We collect only the information needed to provide services and meet legal obligations.
- Transparency: Our Privacy Policy explains how data is collected, used and stored.
- Access & correction: Any data subject may contact us via the Personal Data Request form.
- Security: We use layered controls to protect data from loss, misuse or unauthorized access.
3. Environmental Responsibility & Green Shipping
As a shipping and logistics-focused group, we recognize the EU’s strong emphasis on climate action and cleaner transport. Where possible, JAR GROUP:
- Works with carriers that follow IMO and EU-linked environmental rules (such as sulphur limits and energy-efficient operations).
- Encourages route optimisation, consolidation and digital documentation to reduce fuel waste and paper consumption.
- Promotes responsible packaging and handling for cargo, especially for consumer goods and e-commerce shipments.
- Supports long-term transition towards greener logistics solutions when available from partners and principals.
4. Labour Standards, Human Rights & MLC 2006
In crew manning and marine services, JAR GROUP respects the principles of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) and applicable labour laws. This includes:
- Fair recruitment practices and transparent placement procedures.
- Respect for seafarers’ dignity, safety and welfare.
- Zero tolerance for forced labour, human trafficking or child labour.
- Clear contracts, wages and working conditions as agreed with ship-owners and seafarers.
5. Ethics, Anti-Bribery & Anti-Corruption
JAR GROUP seeks long-term, honest partnerships. We support EU values on integrity and good governance by:
- Rejecting bribery, illegal facilitation payments or corrupt practices in customs, ports or any stage of a shipment.
- Requiring staff and representatives to follow internal codes of conduct and report suspicious activity.
- Maintaining accurate books and records of transactions.
- Co-operating with principals to meet their own anti-corruption policies.
6. Customer & Consumer Protection
For EU-linked buyers, consignees, e-commerce customers and tea consumers, we aim to:
- Provide honest product descriptions for JAR TEA and other brands.
- Ensure fair pricing, clear terms and transparent shipping information.
- Respond to complaints and feedback through our Contact channels.
- Handle refunds and claims fairly and in line with contractual agreements.
7. Continuous Improvement & Dialogue
EU regulations evolve regularly in areas like data, environment and transport. JAR GROUP is committed to learning, updating internal practices and working closely with our EU partners to remain aligned with their compliance needs.
