Sustainability & Responsibility — JAR GROUP
Sustainability & Responsibility
JAR LIMITED and JAR GROUP aim to run shipping, logistics, marine, trade and consumer brands in a way that respects people, the environment and the communities where we work.
Sustainability Pillars
Four simple pillars guide how we think about responsibility across every JAR GROUP activity.
Environment
Reduce avoidable waste and emissions across logistics, offices and product lines, and support customers in
more efficient shipping and sourcing decisions.
People
Treat crew, staff, suppliers, dealers and customers with respect; promote fair recruitment, safety and
development, especially in marine and logistics operations.
Products & Supply Chain
Build tea, food and lifestyle brands that focus on quality, traceability where possible and gradual
improvements in sourcing and packaging practices.
Community
Use JAR Foundation and JAR GROUP’s network to support education, youth, environment and social initiatives
in Bangladesh.
Governance
Align responsibility work with our existing governance framework, ISO 9001:2015 quality system and MLC 2006
compliance in crew manning.
Transparency
Communicate clearly what we are doing now, avoid over-claiming and regularly update partners on progress
rather than promises.
Environment & Operations
Practical steps within shipping, logistics and office operations to reduce waste, avoid unnecessary trips and
support more efficient movements of cargo and people.
Shipping & Logistics
- Support customers with routing that avoids unnecessary detours, idle time and demurrage where possible.
- Use digital documentation (BL drafts, manifests, invoices) where accepted by partners to reduce paper and speed up decisions.
- Work with reputable carriers, terminals and inland transport providers that follow safety and environmental regulations.
- Plan cargo handling and storage with a focus on minimizing damage, rework and waste along the way.
Offices & Daily Work
- Encourage simple practices such as controlled air-conditioning, switching off unused equipment and printing only when necessary.
- Use shared digital platforms (email, cloud storage, collaboration tools) to reduce repeated travel purely for document exchange.
- Promote responsible use and disposal of packaging materials used in samples, trade and brand activities.
People & Crew Welfare
Responsibility for the people who make JAR GROUP work — from office staff and field teams to seafarers
deployed through marine and manning activities.
Seafarers & Crew
- Follow MLC 2006 and national rules for crew recruitment and placement, including clear contracts and documented wage terms.
- Ensure crew are briefed about vessels, conditions and documentation requirements before joining assignments where information is available.
- Provide channels for crew and their families to contact JAR World Marine and raise concerns or complaints.
- Coordinate with ship owners and managers when crew welfare or safety issues are reported, aiming for fair solutions.
Staff, Agents & Partners
- Encourage a respectful working culture regardless of position, gender, religion or background.
- Base hiring and promotion on competence, behaviour and performance rather than favoritism.
- Discourage bribery and “shortcut” practices that risk people’s safety or long-term relationships.
- Offer training and knowledge sharing where possible (e.g. shipping basics, documentation, customer service, compliance awareness).
Concerns about crew welfare, staff behaviour or misconduct related to JAR GROUP can be reported through the
Speak Up page or official contacts.
Responsible Products & Brands
How JAR TEA, NISSUL and related brands think about quality, sourcing and packaging as they grow.
Tea & Food (JAR TEA)
- Blend tea from recognized gardens and auctions with attention to quality, consistency and safe handling.
- Seek suppliers and partners who respect local labour laws and safety standards in plantations and factories.
- Maintain clear product labelling (blend type, net weight, manufacturing / best-before dates) for customers and regulators.
- Collect feedback from dealers and consumers to adjust blends, pack sizes and communication for clarity and value.
Lifestyle & Eco (NISSUL & Tableware)
- Develop tableware and lifestyle items that favour durable or natural materials where commercially possible.
- Explore packaging options which reduce unnecessary plastic, multi-layer waste or non-recyclable components over time.
- Highlight proper usage and care instructions so products last longer and reduce replacement cycles.
Community & JAR Foundation
Using JAR GROUP’s network and resources to support people and communities beyond day-to-day commercial work.
Focus Areas
- Education and skills — supporting students, youth and early-career professionals through guidance, training or selected initiatives.
- Health and wellbeing — awareness activities and practical support where possible in local communities.
- Environment — tree planting, cleanliness drives or awareness campaigns that encourage simple, practical actions.
- Youth & volunteers — engaging young people who want to contribute time and ideas through volunteering.
How Projects Are Chosen
- Preference for projects where JAR GROUP’s logistics, people or networks truly add value.
- Basic due diligence on partners and beneficiaries before committing funds or brand support.
- Transparent communication on what is being done, without exaggeration or political agenda.
- Where possible, simple reporting and photos so donors, volunteers and partners can see results.
More details about projects and volunteering opportunities will be shared through dedicated JAR Foundation
pages and social channels as they grow.
